Sekibo: Bayelsa Govt. Declares 3-Day Mourning
Gov. Seriake Dickson of Bayelsa on Tuesday declared a three-day mourning in honour of the late President of the Ijaw National Congress (INC), Sen. Tari Sekibo.This information is contained in a statement issued by Mr Daniel Iworiso-Markson, the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor in Yenagoa on Tuesday.
The statement described the death of the INC president as a great loss not only to the Ijaw nation, but Nigeria as a whole.
“The late Sekibo’s wealth of experience and contribution to the development of Ijaw nation will remain indelible.
“He will be remembered for his truthfulness, doggedness, leadership style and selfless service to the development of the Ijaw nation and Nigeria as a whole,’’ the statement said.
It also stated that Dickson has postponed his planned ‘Thank You Tour’ of the eight Local Government Areas of the state as a mark of honour to the deceased.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the tour which was earlier scheduled to commence on Nov. 20 has now been shifted to Nov. 25.
The statement further said Dickson had directed that all flags in public buildings in the state be flown at half-mast for three days, beginning from Nov. 19.
According to the statement, burial arrangement for the INC leader would be announced later by his family and the Okrika Council of Chiefs.
The statement said the Bayelsa government would consult with the INC, the Sekibo family and the Okrika council of chiefs to work out the burial arrangements. (NAN)
